WYOMING COWBOYS Division III, Region 12 Head Coach: Aaron Hancock (0-0 @ Wyoming, first year, 0-0 overall) 2011 Record: 6-4, 5-2
Overview: Change atop the Wyoming football program is a very rare occurrence. New head coach Aaron Hancock has big shoes to fill in replacing the legendary Bernie Barre, who retired after the 2011 season. Hancock has the pedigree having been under Barre's tutelage for several years. The Cowboys are in a wonderful spot with a solid senior class that will be pushed by a bevy of juniors who are loaded with talent.
In his varsity debut quarterback Will Marty threw for 2,504 yards and 19 touchdowns as a sophomore. His primary targets will be tight end Ben Kurtz with receivers Bilal Dawson, Dawson Rogers, Jalen Fox and Dominic Vamosi also in the mix. Terrell Dailey and Ken Darlington will battle it out for carries out of the backfield. They should have little trouble finding holes behind a line that features Casey Howell, Griffin O'Gara, Drew Williamson, Bo Graham and Logan Schneider.
Wyoming will need to continue to do a good job of keeping opponents out of the end zone. They gave up just 19 points per game in 2011. That is a total that Hancock can live with if his explosive offense does what it is supposed to. What the Cowboys lack in size up front they will make up for with speed. That means secondary members Fox, Vamosi, Darlington and Dailey will have to be sure tacklers. Linebackers Conner Hughes and Casey Howell will have large responsibilities trying to keep everything in front of them. Hancock will ask Schneider and O'Gara to battle up front in order to allow his linebackers to make stops.
