CARROLL PATRIOTS Division III, Region 12 Head Coach: Bob Levy (4-6 @ Carroll, one year, 4-6 overall) 2011 Record: 4-6, 3-7
Overview: It is a fair to say that Carroll head coach Bob Levy did not have the horses to compete with the big boys on the Carroll schedule in his first year at the helm. The Patriots were in a ton of close games as the players mimicked Levy’s dogged-determination to succeed. With the loss of 14 starters this squad is going to need a herculean effort to hit the .500 mark in 2012. A killer schedule is a daunting task, but if Carroll can find a way to eke out an upset or two they could be looking at their ninth post season trip in the last 12 years.
With only three starters coming back on offense Levy will look to quarterback Forrest Cordova to lead the youngsters. Cordova only threw 49 passes as a full-time starter last fall, but did run 225 yards and three touchdowns. Lineman Christian Porter has offers from Ball State, Ohio and Toledo. Max Ankeny and newcomer Cary Sullivan will handle the carries out of the backfield.
The defense has the potential to be pretty fair. Up front in Levy’s 3-4 scheme will be ends Dailon Pentheny, Kevin Lefeld and tackle Tom Hill. The trio made things happen in 2011 combining to come up with five takeaways. Linebacker David Taylor is primed for a breakout campaign. In the secondary, Tom McArdle and Nate Hemmert will look to better the 61 yards passing and the 14 points per contest that Carroll allowed last season.
