September 29, 2012The Colerain Cardinals continued the season with their unblemished record as they shutout the Mason Comets 35-0 Friday night proving why they are number one in the recent Harbin Ratings. It is the third time this season the Cardinals have shutout their opponent.
Colerain's (6-0, 3-0) defense allowed just 157 total yards during the game. Mason (3-3, 1-2) quarterback Jensen Harris completed 10 passes in 20 attempts for 100 yards and threw two interceptions. Darryl Johnson racked up 78 respectable rushing yards for the Comets, but Jensen Harris ended the day with -21 rushing yards and brought the team total for the night down to just 57.
The Cardinals' ground attack was much more potent. Throughout the night, four Cardinals totaled a whopping 296 rushing yards in 48 attempts while scoring five touchdowns.
Cardinal quarterback Alfred Ramsby threw the ball just eight times and completed four passes for 33 yards. Ramsby did some damage on the ground notching 49 yards and a touchdown, but the night belonged to Colerain junior Detuan Smith.
Before facing the Comets, Smith never carried the ball more than seven times or for over 100 yards in a game this season. Against the Comets, Smith scored three times as he accumulated 200 total yards on 23 carries.
The Cardinals will attempt to preserve their perfect season when they face the 2-4 Middletown Middies at home next week. Mason will go on the road to face Fairfield, who will be trying to pick up their first GMC victory of the season.
